School day

What to expect in school

The school day starts at 07:05 when children are taken into school by their class teacher. Developing independence is an important component of the IPC and students continue to be shown how to organise themselves for learning.

A typical day consists of 6 lessons (each of approximately 50 minutes), with two 30-minute breaks throughout the day. Children have the opportunity to both eat and play during these breaks.

Classes finish at 13:50 (13:00 for students in Foundation Stage). Children are responsible for packing their own belongings at the end of each day and for ensuring all homework activities are taken home for completion.

Food

Please provide a lunchbox stocked with range of healthy snacks for your child to eat during break times. A sandwich, fruit, vegetable sticks and plain biscuits are all ideal. Remember to include a water bottle.

Fizzy drinks, glass bottles, chocolate, nuts and chewing gum should not be sent to school.

What to Bring

Children should bring to school a small bag containing their lunchbox, water bottle, hat, etc. Please do not provide excessively large trolley bags, as these create problems with storage and carrying up and down stairs.

Foundation Stage children should additionally bring a spare change of clothing.

Milepost 2 students are also requested to provide the following items of personal equipment:

  • clear pencil case
  • HB pencils
  • pencil sharpener
  • erasers
  • 30cm plastic ruler
  • scissors
  • 2 large glue sticks
  • A4 whiteboard
  • 2 whiteboard pens
  • whiteboard eraser
  • 1 box of coloured pencils
  • 2 different coloured highlighters

For Milepost 3 students, we recommend the same personal equipment as for Milepost 2 (see above), plus a drawing compass and protractor.
